The Association
Four political science students founded the association MUN Team University of Zurich in 2007 to organize a delegation to Harvard WorldMUN 2008 in Puebla. Another eight members joined to help prepare for this important conference. The experience in Mexico was great, and the delegation was a huge success! To further participate at MUN conferences, two new board members were elected and later new team members joined. And MUN Team UZH has continued to expand ever since.
Today we offer weekly sessions, organise delegations to international conferences as well as workshops and events related to the UN and its work. Through continuing efforts, our young Team has quickly become known in the worldwide MUN landscape.
Our Goals
As an accredited student organisation of the University of Zurich, our goal is to provide a platform for students interested in the United Nations.
Our primary objective has always been attending international conferences. The interaction with students from other MUN societies and the opportunity to really become an expert in a specific topic that a conference provides are invaluable for the experience of MUN. For this reason, each delegation of our MUN Team is organised by the Chief Head Delegate.
As part of the preparations, delegates participate in our weekly sessions and advance their knowledge of the Rules of Procedure. We pride ourselves in the enthusiastic number of delegates attending each week and the many benefits of debating overall. Our weekly sessions are more than practice simulations. Being part of our Team provides students with the chance to naturally improve personal skills but also to bond with fellow members during debate and at the events we organise.
On top of that, MUN Team UZH constantly looks for interesting exchanges that bring the concept of the United Nations closer to our members, by planning relevant excursions and hosting events for experts on the United Nations, international relations or a current topic of world politics.
Our long term goal is to continue to pass on our experiences, know-how as well as organisational preliminary work. Ultimately, establishing our association and the spirit of Model United Nations at the University of Zurich is what we aim for. In short: We will continue to strive for excellence in every sense. Interested students are always welcome to join us and get access to the fascinating world of international relations!
