Newsletter November 2021

Distinguished Delegates,

With winter approaching, this newsletter looks back at our recent activities and informs you of what the rest of the semester has in store for the MUN Team UZH.

WawMUN 2021 Recap

MUN Team UZH’s first conference of the semester was a great experience!

Our time in Warsaw was filled with interesting debates, exploring the city and its history, great food and other enriching activities organized by our Chief Head Delegate, Darya Shiryaeva.

We would like to thank VSUZH for their support in enabling our members to improve their debating skills and connect with people from across Europe. Furthermore, we are grateful to our main sponsors, Swiss Re and ICC Switzerland, as well as our other supporters, the University of Zurich and UZH Alumni. Thank you for making attending these stimulating international conferences possible!

WawMUN 2021 commenced with an insightful speech by Rafał Kostrzyński, a spokesperson for the UNHCR Representation in Poland, on "The United Nations in a Multipolar World." Over the course of three days, various aspects of this overarching theme were discussed by our delegates in different committees. Through convincing speeches, tough negotiation, and carefully balanced compromises the conference ended in a myriad of solid resolutions to the debated issues.

We would like to congratulate our members, Amin A. Tlili, Natasha Hunziker and Lorenz von Arx for winning the Best Delegate Award in their respective committees as well as Patrik György for being awarded Outstanding Speaker!

We are already looking forward to attending the next international MUN conference with our Team!

Guest Speaker Event: Switzerland as a Host Country for International Organisations

On Thursday, the 18th of November, we were very pleased to welcome two experts from the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs to the University of Zurich to give a brief lecture on the topic of Switzerland and its role as a host country for international organizations. Mr. Christian Gubser and Mr. Andrin Schwere conveyed the importance of hosting international organizations and gave us insights into the daily tasks and challenges of the FDFA.
Their presentation was followed by a lively Q&A session with plenty of questions from our members and other interested attendees.

We would like to thank Mr. Gubser and Mr. Schwere for their valuable input and for making it possible for us to have such an interesting discussion!

Upcoming: BIMUN 2021

We are excited to be sending a delegation consisting of twelve MUN Team UZH members to the 20th edition of the BIMUN conference in Bonn from the 26th to the 30th of November and wish them fruitful debates within the overarching conference theme "Human Rights in a Digitalizing World". BIMUN 2021 will be the first MUN conference for many of our new (rookie) members and as such an even more exciting experience!

MUN Team UZH Secret Santa

We are very excited to announce that we will be hosting a Secret Santa game within our MUN Team again this year!

More information will follow soon; for now just save the date for the grand present exchange, which will happen on the 15th of December after the final weekly session of the semester!
