Newsletter May 2022
Distinguished Delegates,
We hope you enjoyed our last weekly session of the semester! In this final regular newsletter of the academic year 2021/2022, we give you an overview of our Team's activities in the past few weeks.
Final Topic Block Recap
For the final topic block of the year we decided to put ourselves into the past. We tried to find a solution to the Cuban Missile Crisis in the frame of the UN Security Council. For a change, the participants of our sessions were allowed to form double delegations. Meaning two people represented one country. The delegates were stuck on the date of the 16th of October 1962 for the duration of the topic block. This created the additional suspense of not knowing if there are any missiles stationed in Cuba. Therefore, investigations were called for and heavy accusations were made. In the end, the council came to the collective agreement that an investigation into Cuba shall happen and that they will take it from there. For the last time this academic year, our delegates showcased great wit and remarkable knowledge on how to use the rules of procedure in their favour, making full use of veto powers and unconventional working papers.

ZuMUN 2022 Recap
From the 28th of April to the 1st of May, the annual Zurich MUN conference took place. MUN Team UZH organized the conference together with ETH MUN.
Our Team members took an active role not only in form of the Co-Secretary-General but also in leading the Socials, Delegates & Registration, Fundraising & External Relations, Ceremonies & Speakers, Committees & Chairs and Marketing departments as Under-Secretary-Generals. Many of our members put in great efforts as part of the organising committee, as chairs and as backroomers, ensuring the best possible conference experience for everyone attending. Finally, MUN Team UZH members took part in ZuMUN as delegates, debating alongside more than 100 attendees from around the world.
The theme of this year’s ZuMUN was REthink, REshape, REcreate and the discussions in all committees were guided by the quest to find new viable solutions to the topics at hand. At the opening ceremony in the Rathaus Zurich, Youth Delegate Naji Osman spoke of his experience representing Switzerland to the United Nations and offered valuable insights into the role young people play in shaping the future of multilateralism. His speech was received with great interest and proved a motivating force throughout the conference.
After each day, full of holding speeches, negotiating with other delegates and formulating plans of action, attendees had the chance to relax at the fun social events offered. Delegates tested their knowledge at the quiz night, enjoyed a dinner at Belvoirpark and danced at Amboss Rampe.
At the closing ceremony, chairs of each committee summarized the progress made by the delegates, the innovative solutions they proposed and the ability for compromise they showed.
ZuMUN 2022 was a great success and we already look forward to next year’s Zurich conference!
We are especially thankful to VSUZH for their support in allowing our members to take part in the ZuMUN conference as delegates. Furthermore, we are grateful to our main sponsors, Swiss Re and ICC Switzerland, as well as our other supporters, the University of Zurich and UZH Alumni, for making attending MUN conferences possible!
Irchelbar Recap
During the first week of May, our Team had the chance to host Irchelbar. Our Head of Events, Eliseo, with the help of some of our members, took charge of the bar station and served drinks for thirsty guests all evening long. We were happy to see so many friends and familiar faces, at our last event of the year. Despite the rainy weather, it was a great success and we hope this will be the start of yet another yearly event for our association.
We would like to thank VSUZH and Irchelbar for giving us the chance to host this event, and also thank all those who came by to spend an evening with us!
We look forward to a great General Assembly to celebrate this year of MUN with you!
See you soon,
